The East End has stood at Ashton Gate for around 80 years I believe. In that time it has witnessed some incredible events and we, the fans, have shared those moments with it.
It has survived floods, high winds, German bombs and even Millwall!
It has watched on as we have gone bankrupt, dropped 3 divisions in 3 years, lost games to Rovers and been forced by its foundations to watch football Tony Pulis style.
But it has been witness to some great moments too- promotion to the top flight, beating the best teams in the land, thrashings of local rivals
It has been through it all and been the scene of some amazing memories So keep the tradition alive untill we move to the new stadium.
KEATING..
the east end roof was badly damaged in 1916 by gales and in december
the following year was demolished after being declared unsafe.
it was not untill 1928 that the cover was replaced, paid for
by money which city recived from the transfers of albert keating
and clarrie bourton, who both were sold to blackburn for a
combined fee of £3,650...
the east end has had many names over the years ''the covered end''
''winterstoke road end'' ''wedlock stand'' but it was Originally
called ''The Keating stand''.........
Fans, Flags, Fun and Flyers
Above is a draft flyer designed by a fellow fan and Eastender
who also has managed to arrange with a printing company free of charge the printing of one thousand of the babies. The intention is to give them out first day of next season with the permission of the club within the East End. The text and design may change slightly but the flyers emphasises the intention of East Enders to push the stands fun support on ever further next season.
We as fans want to see Gary Johnson's requests for total support answered within the East End every time City players run out at the Gate by a show of carnival like support. Its already being done within our home end but next season its time to really put on what our Manager has called for. To do this nothing is more important than taking part on match day but away from The Gate fans can also help out.
Flags are being bought, scarves and badges designed, flyers like the above created and ideas being shared. Lets see more getting involved in attempt to make our club and our East End realise what it can be. Its all pointless playing a blinder at the bar or typing a stream of posts on City forums debating the intricacies of a stand you have no interest in because its actions which will improve our club not empty rhetoric.
East Enders and Forza East End don't hold meetings, theres no paying membership, no mason like rituals involving cider although that sounds interesting but there is the Forza East End Forum which can be found here - http://www.ziderheads.co.uk/ch/ Its not a perfect means of staying in contact but it is the best we have at the moment. Get involved even if its just to offer to hand out a few flyers, share some ideas on songs or pass the forums address on to any you know are East Enders or interested in our Cow Shed. It all helps, its better than stating "I believe" then sitting as a spectator for ninety minutes on a saturday and offering no support to the team. You will find other fans who don't need to know the nuances of every players contract, do not think fans are simply drunken savages because they like singing or don't wear a club shirt but want to give our team as much support as they can.
Get involved chaps and Lady Chaps and lets put the fun and passion back into Bristol City and the East End.
