You may be aware or maybe you are not but play up in the ground and Big Brother really is watching. BCFC have cctv everywhere from the moment you reach the near vacinity of the ground your movements come under the eye of surveillance. There are cctv cameras even opposite Ashton Park on Ashton Road as well as Winterstoke road. Every turnstile is monotored by is monitored by cctv which is capable of zooming in and even freezing a picture of an emblem on a jacket be it Stone Island or River Island.
Anybody who gets in who is banned does not last long and blag your way in to the East End or jump over the fence as some have done v West Brom sees you soon tracked down with the aid of the cctv and at best ejected.
Control of Policing at Ashton Gate has now even moved to the Avon and Somerset Constabulary HQ in Portishead where the force Commander can review any activity as it happens from the beam back via Ashton Gate control room. So any who think its a good idea to run to the front of the Dolman, Williams and East End to wave at the away fans or poor Bradley [He's an Orr] Orr Just remember its all been being viewed a bit further than Ashton Gate which should sobering thought for anybody.
East Enders may have concerns about the way the stand has been managed this season but all who travel away regularly will testify City have amongst the best Stewards in the division. It may be the fact that some of the Stewards at Ashton Gate ARE long term fans of the club but East Enders should appreciate how good our Day-Glo Wurzels are.
Unlike the Blockheads at Ipswich who wanted fans arrested for such crimes as standing or singing traditional songs all the East End stewards seem to really worry about are fans blocking walkways or standing directly on top of seats because they do get broken. As a fan who saw City fans chucked out at Molineux because they could not find empty seats because others were in theirs its really is positive to see tolerance exercised.
Thankfully at our ground we have Stewards who are not sucking the life out of football which makes it stand apart from Sports like rugby or cricket [Somerset la la la Somerset la la la]. Stewards in the East End understand that ritualised theatrical tribalism is a fun part of the day, the songs sung are not reality and that fans are creating what should be a spectacle.
In the East End at least fans have been allowed to push back the lack of passion shown elsewhere enforced by over zealous Stewarding bordering on hostile and intimidatory. We may get searched as we go in but for those lucky enough to get in the Cow Shed you will get treated with respect not constant suspicion. We are not being viewed as something which has to be eradicated from football because you are working class and aged between sixteen and thirty five. Lets not nause it up boys. Respect what a good job is being done by the Stewards here and try to create the backing Gary Johnson so clearly desires while having a bloody good laugh.
ED' NOTE: I have always liked the picture below and could not help but wonder what the lady steward was smiling about? untill now!!
3 lions and a robin has obtained exclusive still shots from the PC'S camcorder which was taken on a Bristol rovers fans day out, the copper was so excited about the capture on film of these rare creatures he wanted to show the eastend faithful what he filmed, pictures below....
