The Mighty Apple Review

Weston Old Rosie Scrumpy

Despite being brewed in Much Marcle in Herefordshire by  the  H. Weston & Sons brewery this babeee ticks those important mighty apple boxes.

It comes in well above the all important proper cider threshold of 5% at a double plus good alcholic 7.3% abv, it is made from real pressed apple not concentrate and it is cloudy and flat hence Scrumpy.

Old Rosie is named after a Steam train and drink eight of these minxes not only will you steaming you will be dribbling from both ends. Its dry, sharp and has a distinct taste of apples.

If you know any Numpties who drink Strongbow or Magners get them to buy a pint and tell them to wait for it to clear, should take around 2hrs.
Treat with caution!

Thatchers Cheddar Valley

Where do you start ? It's a very orange colour perfect for scaring non cider drinkers, brewed in real Wurzel cider country in oak vats by one of the biggest independent cidermakers in the UK , above the 5% proper cider threshold at 6% abv.

Not as dry as the colour suggests but more than pleasant drank chilled outside the Orchard on the benches in the sun.

If you get yourself down  the A368 Weston-Bath to the Thatchers shop in Sandford you can buy gallons of the cider right up to the mighty  5-gallon polycask.  Marvellous!

Thatchers katy

Bit of a strange brew this one . 7.4 % abv medium dry, fruity with a distinct spicy after taste of it's very own. Very pale in colour, pours almost like a wine and sold in inoffensive bottles which does not betray the nuclear strength cider lurking within to the unsuspecting.

Brewed in oak vats from one source of apple the Katy from Orchards in Somerset.

Warning ,  fizzy texture but of anesthetic like potency.
