Eastenders questionnaire 2008

This be a hardly scientific questionnaire and its validity due to being conducted on line and open to question. 94 Eastenders in theory have completed this and here follows the results. As promised there is also some opinionated haphazard interpretation. Some of this optimistically is of interest to four or five, may underline suspicions, may be entertaining and with a bit of luck even help us as fans improve our stand and support of our team.

Does being able to go in the Eastend improve your day out at Ashton Gate?
There was fear that the Eastend would become Ashton Gate's equivalent of  Lidl's where fans gathered to only watch due to the cut priced season tickets on offer. The above despite the poor view in places, backless seats and catering you need to be Jamaica's Usain Bolt to get to before it shuts looks like something for BCFC to be proud of.

I am enjoying this season more than I have for ten years.
Wud stop going if I had to go back into the Dolman and listen to all the moanin.

Would you like to see a end with large single blocks of seating with similar characteristics to the Eastend in the new stadium if City move?
The very real possibility has to be if City do move to the Anne Summers KY Jelly stadium that which is making the Eastend a success will have given way to an environment akin to the cacophony of sound experienced at the Walkers. The Eastend shares traits with Liverpool's Kop [yep it's obviously a tad smaller and then some more] and Wolves South Bank so take those characteristics and ensure that our new stadium has at least one area that vocal fans will gather together.

Wolves south bank
Yes but must be much bigger
Yes -Why build an end without atmosphere?

Do you think fans should be able to pay on the day to access the Eastend as they can in the other three stands at the Gate?
The Eastend is the home end and was and should be about all taking part if they so wish.

Fans comments

Fuck off to the overflow, Maybe only sell tickets to club members
Yes - maybe for some kind of membership scheme (so any trouble-makers could be kept out)
Yes - its utterly ridiculous that I cannot get my family into the ground when there is lots of room.
Absolutely no reason not too.
It does benefit by raising the numbers in the east end and in theory that should mean more noise, but in my opinion it just separates the "singers" and there is an influx of people wanting to be there the experience the atmosphere without actually taking part. So you end up with small groups of sporadic singing rather than one large group.
Yes, at least bring back bring a friend or use that crap ID card . The club would not attempt this not allowing fans in any other stand
Not really, as more trouble may happen, maybe a membership scheme.
I can't understand why City are throwing away money every week.

Do you think Mabel the Eastends drum helps the stands atmosphere?
The Eastend's drummer appears to be the Muppets animal or a cider mentalist or there's something wrong with his arms or he's been on the little Gurners or it's a complete lack of timing ... whatever it is Mabel should be treated with care. Build up slow , caress Mabel a bit, establish a rhythm, lets see some loving finesse before steaming in and the fearsome pounding of  Mabel starts.

The drum should not be an act of self indulgence and it may be approaching the time where the Forza Eastend sorts let it form its own little Island on the Feeder.

Fans comments

Whoever the drummer is, its miles to slow!
1 drums cool but no more. never want to c a return to anything resembling that crappy band
Can't hear him
Thought this would be shit having a drummer but he gets it  right it really help with some chants.
Just use your naffin voices!!

Do you think the megaphone helps the stands atmosphere?
Its pretty hard to appreciate or dislike what you can't hear to come to a decision … MORE VOLUME NEEDED and if it becomes clear that its jarring Wurzel off the holy Piezo Dynamic technological supporting equipment will be ditched.

Fans comments

Needs to be louder
Get a bigger louder un
Lets get a Capo up on a stand!!!
Maybe 2 or 3 of these placed strategically round the stand
More volume needed please as it works well but can only be heard at the back of the stand.

Would you like to see more large flags on poles in the Eastend?
Them lot from London cast aspersions on the Wurzels coves as being the types to throw spears at planes but it is clear that the great Red Wurzel Tribe of BS3 is a open minded race. This will come as a great relief  to the Forza Eastend chap who came up with the ideal and spent a great deal of time selling scarves to finance the flags along with his Mrs effort making them. Despite the authorities telling fans standing is dangerous supporters disagree it rivals walking along the centre of the M32. Its obviously a yes here so Bristol City Council and the Football licensing authority might want to meet Eastenders in a open meeting to explain what fans are missing here or conduct their own research to establish why the majority of fans in the Eastend keep standing up.

Fans comments

Its good cos it adds colour to the stand, but would be annoying while the game is on.
Yes - get some more in there.
Lets have some more in the centre of stand
Wasted down the front where nobody can see them.

Do you like the idea of Eastenders using I am a cider drinker as the Eastends anthem?
What is there to say? Quite a lot as this baby is full of dramatic lyrical beauty containing references to cider, work and play coupled with a little lovers lane romanticism with Mabel …and its all ours with its rhythmic wave-like chorus coming through the Eastend , "I AM CIDER DRINKER, I DRINKS IT ALL OF THE DAY, I AM A CIDER DRINKER IT SOOTHES ALL ME TROUBLES AWAY …. Be true socially relevant football cider music for the Eastend horde this.

Fans comments

Beats the living granny out of that believe shite.
Not bothered but as a recovering alcoholic I sing my own version, I am a tizer drinker!
yes,... along with always believe
Anything but that Believe shit.
Is a good song and love singing it, but do we really need an anthem?
Love it.

There will be a confetti and Streamer display v Crystal Palace organised by the Three Lions and Forza Eastend. Would you be willing to make a donation of a hundred cider tokens [£1] towards the cost?
Get those cider tokens ready this is going to be happening and we want to see from the measly miserly minuscule minority % [pah!] no smiling or enjoying yourself mind because you have not paid for it!

Fans comments

Why not have some flares as well with the Stewards checking they are used sensibly?
Yes this could look utterly brilliant .

Non Eastend question. Would you support BCFC dividing away allocations into singing and non singing sections?
Bristol City football club HAVE been approached regarding this. From this sample this move would be welcome. There are channels where fans can feedback to BCFC like the Supporters Trust and the Fans Consultative Forum and here is an opportunity for those groups to advocate on Supporters behalf if they feel the above has any merit [probably not] at all.

YES! Stopped going to away games now as home games are much better and you don't have to be surrounded by people who get aggressive just because you want to get behind the team.
I am always impressed with the noise on my City aways except for when we get to Wembley & The Millenium ! So I'd say yes to your question 10 when it comes to Cup & Play Off Finals !!! Can you believe the person in front of me at Wembley actually asked us to keep the noise down LOFL !!
Yes as away games have become less enjoyable because of the amount of fans who simply are not interested in supporting the team.
Our away support is an embarrassment and this would improve it !00%

Thanks to all Eastenders for taking the time to do the questionnaire
